South Isle Family Campground didn't originally start off with this name. Prior to becoming South Isle Family Campground it was known as Isle South Campground. On a rare occasion, we still are referred to as Isle South Campground with some of the older individuals in the community of Isle.
Some of the activities that were held (during the days of Isle South Campground) were: Ice Cream Socials, Log Rolling Contests in the Pond, Horseshoe Tournaments, Fun Fly In's, the Playground and the Pool. the Campground had approximately 80 sites with water and electric. Over the years the Isle South Campground we through a few different owners and was put up for sale in 1991.
Wally and Sue Heise purchased the campground in 1991. While their kids were young they started taking family camping trips. They started with tent camping with the family and worked their way up to a tent trailer. As a family we camped for many years and a lot of memories were created with the trips we've taken as a family. When purchasing the campground they asked each one of the kids what they liked about campgrounds they stayed at as kids. If you looked at the amenities we offer today, you will can figure out the answers to their question. When asked what they didn't like, the answer was simple: paying for extra activities.
Since purchasing the campground in 1991, there have been many changes to the property: The name change to South Isle Family Campground, The Playground has seen playground equipment come and go, they added new sewer sites (bringing the site total to 88 seasonal sites and 45 daily sites), the addition of the themed weekend schedule, the rainbow express train rides and much much more. After running the campground for nearly 30 years, Wally and Sue wanted to step back and look at retiring from the day to day grind of running a campground. In 2019 Bryan Heise and Kim Ames (Wally and Sue's children) took over the daily operation of the campground and are currently the Co-Owners of South Isle Family Campground.
